Bottoms Up! Five Fun Tips to Stay Hydrated This Summer

According to the Mayo Clinic, a healthy adult needs at least 2-3 liters of water per day. Hydration is especially important to be mindful of in the summer months, when temperatures spike and it’s easier than ever to lose water via perspiration. Set a reasonable goal, listen to your body, and don’t get too competitive about hydration. And if you’re unusually thirsty all the time, consult your physician, as this can be a symptom of diabetes and other conditions.

Pop Quiz!

Who can resist a good online quiz? Take this one and leave with a ballpark goal for water consumption (something way better than a spirit animal or Disney princess doppelganger!).

Invest in A Water Bottle–Or Two–You Love

You and your bottle will be spending a lot of time together, so invest in a model you’ll like. Keep in mind features like the ability to add ice easily, the type of spout, how easy cleaning the bottle is, whether it’ll fit into your vehicle’s cup holders, etc. Once you settle on one you like, consider buying backups so that you can keep one filled up in your refrigerator.

Rubber Band Trick

First, calculate how many times you’ll need to refill your bottle to hit your hydration goals. Then , put a corresponding number of rubber bands around the base of the bottle. Each time you need a refill, move a band up to the top of your glass. When all of your bands are at the top, congratulations! You hit your mark.

Write it Out

Attention Google Calendar addicts! Break up your hydration goals by time of day–i.e. one fourth a bottle by 8:00 AM, half by 10:00 AM, etc. Then, draw a line at that level on the bottle with the time written next to it.  You’ll need more than one water bottle for this one, but it’s well worth it for you type-A types–or anyone who wants to make sure they are hydrating steadily throughout the day.

Intriguing Infusions

If basic H20 proves too boring, spice things up with these water infusion recipes. Remember: we taste with our eyes, too. Sometimes a pretty garnish or a nice presentation is all it takes to upgrade your refreshment.
