Dr. Jessica Arias Garau is a double board certified physician in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and Interventional Pain Management. She completed a B.A .in Biology and Business Certificate at the University of Rochester in New York. Dr. Arias graduated at the top of her class at the University of Puerto Rico School of Medicine, where she earned her doctorate of Medicine degree. She then completed an internship and residency in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at the same institution, under program director Dr. William Micheo, past president of the American Association of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. She obtained her fellowship in Interventional Pain Management at Temple University, under program director Dr. Frank Falco, past president of the American Society of Interventional Pain Physicians. This fellowship program is one of the only three ACGME accredited physiatry based Interventional Pain Medicine Fellowship Programs in the country.
Dr. Arias is co-author of articles on spine and pain related disorders. She has provided clinical instruction and educational lectures to residents and fellows at Temple University Mid-Atlantic Spine and Pain program
Dr. Arias specializes in performing spinal and peripheral nerve injections. Some of these procedures include epidural, facet, temporomandibular and other fluoroscopic and ultrasound-guided injections, radiofrequency ablations, sympathetic blocks, and spinal cord stimulation, among others. She is proficient in electromyography and has experience with neuromuscular disorders. Dr. Arias holds medical licenses in New Jersey, Maryland, Delaware, and Puerto Rico. She is a member of the American Society of Interventional Pain Physicians, American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, and American Medical Association.
Dr. Arias was born in Puerto Rico and is fluent in English and Spanish. She participated as field physician in Los Juegos Centro Americanos 2010, in Puerto Rico and other sports events. She enjoys running, and exercising in her spare time. Her goal is to minimize pain and restore function to provide a better quality of life.
