Gwen Urs, DMSc, MS, PA-C
PA. Urs is a board-certified physician assistant with over two decades of experience in orthopedic care, currently serving patients at Advanced Orthopedics and Sports Medicine Institute (AOSMI) and Centrastate Medical Center. She provides part-time support in the pain management division, with a focus on personalized care plans for patients experiencing musculoskeletal pain, joint issues, and post-surgical discomfort as well as hospital inpatient care managing a broad spectrum of acute and chronic pain conditions. She provides first assistant surgical support to Dr. John Georgy for spinal cord stimulator implantations.
PA. Urs began her career in orthopedic medicine and surgical support and has maintained a consistent focus on improving outcomes for patients through both clinical care and research. Her strong background includes hands-on surgical assistance in total joint replacements and sport medicine surgical procedures, work-up of orthopedic conditions, orthopedic injections, non-surgical treatment strategies and patient education.
She holds a Doctorate of Medical Science degree from the University of Lynchburg, a Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies from University of Medicine and Dentistry of NJ & Seton Hall University School of Graduate Medicine and a Bachelor’s degree in Biology with a minor in English literature from Kean University.
Her academic and clinical research experience spans a wide range of medical and scientific fields. She has contributed to orthopedic research with particular interest in Physician Assistant studies, advancements in orthopedics and pain management with viscosupplementation and developing meniscal tissue grafts for implantation. Her hospital based research projects have focused on infection control, cancer, reduction techniques, and multiple sclerosis and neuroscience. Additionally, she participated in a study abroad program conducting behavioral science and primate behavior research. Her work has been presented through university journal publications, poster presentations as well as oral presentations. She is CITI-certified in human research and has completed training in Good Clinical Practice and FEMA/CERT protocols.
PA. Urs is licensed in the state of New Jersey, with active certifications including BLS, DEA, and CDS. She is a member of the American Academy of Physician Assistants (AAPA), the New Jersey State Society of Physician Assistants, and local service organizations including the 200 Club of Monmouth County.
