Stephanie – Bilateral Knee Replacement

Stephanie is a 68 year-old female who underwent a simultaneous bilateral (double) knee replacement with quadriceps muscle sparing surgery performed by Dr. Alan S. Nasar at The Total Joint Center of New Jersey, CentraState Medical Center, Freehold NJ. Stephanie talks about her experience with the surgery and her recovery. She is quite pleased with the lack of pain and her rapid recovery.

Susan Villagi

susan-banzonSusan, a retired schoolteacher, was having difficulty with swelling and stiffness in her knee.  She met with Dr. Manuel Banzon who recommended a knee replacement.  Susan was very confident with Dr. Banzon’s skill.  Her hesitation was about how she would recover.   After a short rehab stay Susan began therapy at Advanced Orthopedic Physical Therapy.  “I was very overwhelmed with all the equipment. Not having good balance I was afraid I would fall.”   Susan came to therapy 3 days a week.

“I looked forward to coming every day as I became stronger and more confident.  The staff really made the difference for me.  They were so encouraging and supportive. I hate to finish therapy as I will really miss coming here!”

Jamie Casella

jamie-grellerWith her warm and welcoming smile you might not sense the competitive spirit of 16 year old Jamie Casella.  In May of 2011, this soccer player collided with the opposition, fell to the ground and could not get up.  Jamie met Dr.  Michael Greller, in the ER, who diagnosed her with a torn ACL.  Mrs. Casella stated “Dr. Greller was great; we were really comfortable with him caring for Jamie.”   Facing surgery, Jamie was grateful for Dr. Greller’s sense of humor.  This athlete is now back on track… trying out for the high school winter track team!

“He really made me laugh. He took his time and didn’t treat me as just another patient. I wasn’t even scared when I went to surgery”.

Andrew Tess

andrew-nasar-berkowitzDuring a tense moment in the game, 17 year old Andrew jumped up to head the soccer ball and landed twisting his left knee.  As he tried to get up he could not straighten his leg, his knee was locked.  Dr. Alan Nasar diagnosed him with a meniscal tear requiring surgery.  Dr. Nasar performed an arthroscopic meniscus repair with Dr. Berkowitz assisting.  Within a week after surgery Andrew was back to most activities.  Andrew’s parents stated “Andrew is very busy preparing for college next year.  With Dr. Nasar’ s expertise we knew Andrew would recover quickly and finish his Eagle Scout project.”

“Dr. Nasar reassured me that he would have me back on the field and he did!  He provided lots of information and explained everything.  I really trust him”.

Raymond “Rick” Frank

rick-grellerRick was experiencing soreness and clicking in his knee.  Having bought a new home he had become a “Do-It Yourselfer”.   He was spending many hours climbing up and down a ladder installing molding.  This took its toll on his knees.  Rick decided to see an orthopedist.  Lori his wife is a nurse and knew of the great reputation and skill of Dr. Greller.  After surgery for a meniscal tear and bone spurs, Rick is back on the ladder.
